Generation

Generating electricity is one way homeowners, businesses and institutions can help Ontario meet its energy needs while taking advantage of financial incentives.

Whether it is homeowners adding solar panels to their roof, or a corporation building a small hydroelectric facility, there are incentive programs available.

The Ontario Power Authority offers two programs for those interested in supplying renewable energy to their local electricity distribution grid. These programs allow customers to earn revenue by connecting solar photovoltaic, wind, bio-energy and small hydroelectric generation to the grid.

The microFIT program is for homeowners and business owners who are interested in installing renewable electricity generation projects that are 10 kilowatts or less in size.  Most home-based installations, including small-scale rooftop solar PV panels, will fit into this category.

The FIT program is for renewable generation projects larger than 10 kilowatts.
