Hydro Ottawa is committed to helping you manage and reduce your electricity usage. The efficient use of electricity will not only save you money, it will also help to protect the environment.
Every kilowatt-hour of electricity you save, is one less kilowatt-hour of energy that needs to be generated through coal, hydro electric, nuclear, wind or solar efforts.
The importance of conservation is underlined by The Minister of Energy’s recent call for the creation of a ‘Conservation Culture’ in the province. Two areas have been targeted. These include:
- A reduction in Ontario’s total demand for electricity by 5% by the year 2007
- The installation of 800,000 smart electricity meters by 2007, and full deployment of smart meters for all electricity consumers by 2010.
Look in this section of our website for information that will help you to lower your electricity usage and reduce your monthly bill. We have:
- Useful conservation information
- Conservation programs
- Easy-to-use tools
- Smart Meter information
- CFL Disposal Locations
Message from Natural Resources Canada
To date, more than 350,000 homeowners in Ontario have participated in the ecoENERGY Retrofit – Homes program since it began in April 2007. Only those who booked their pre-retrofit evaluation by March 31, 2010, are eligible to receive a program grant. However, those who did not book by this date may still be eligible for an incentive through the Ontario Home Saving Program. Homeowners should check directly with the provincial program to review their eligibility requirements. Participants of both programs have 18 months from the time of the pre-retrofit evaluation report or until March 31, 2011, whichever comes first, to complete the retrofits and have a post-retrofit evaluation by a certified energy advisor.
